Flabouritsa Valley

Overview

Flabouritsa Valley is in the Natura 2000 program and divides the mountain into two Mounts, the big one “Megali Ziria” (2.380 m.) and the smaller one “Mikri Ziria” (2.117 m.). The dense biodiversity of the valley turns it into the essence of the whole region. The river Sythas springs from there and ends up in the sea of Xylokastro. There are streams everywhere and a lot of sensitive species find a shelter there, like the golden eagle, while foxes, ferrets, badgers, porcupines and rabbits are inhabitants of the valley. The region is full of oro-Mediterranean heaths with gorses, sheer cliffs, caves, tree forests and a rich flora of 100 different plant species.
