The lake takes its form in the autumn until late in the spring at an altitude of 1.600 meters and constitutes on of the highest lakes in Greece and it is protected by the Natura 2000 program.
It is surrounded by pine trees and in the middle of it there is a small island that hosts lot of rare plant and animal species. Especially in summer, lots of wild horses that live in Ziria, are cooling off there.
Along with the forest that surrounds the lake, it provides a very beautiful alpine scenery.
