The Museum was built as part of the University of California’s excavation program in Berkeley, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Rudolph A. Peterson. Therefore, it was donated to the Greek State and in 1984 was inaugurated as archaeological museum of Nemea. The museum is located inside the archaeological site. Except of the exhibits from the excavations of the temple of Zeus, the collections of the museum include findings from various archaeological sites of Nemea, covering a chronological range from the beginning of the Neolithic period to the Byzantine period. Among the most important exhibits of the site of the temple are included: a collection of images by travelers from the 18th and 20th centuries, coins from ancient Nemea visitors, objects about sports activities, prehistoric finds, ceramics, tools, weapons, collections from parts of architectural monuments.
