The monastery of Lady of the Rock is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is located in the Municipality of Nemea in Korinthia region and it is built on the eastern side of Mount Polyphagous.
The significance of the monastery’s location had been realized early on, probably, due to the existence of a natural water source at the place, that the temple is located nowadays. According to archaeologists, human presence has been witnessed there since the first Byzantine times.
The ancient monastery is not available as it is claimed to have been destroyed during the Orlov revolt.
According to reports, the monastery contributed significantly during the Greek War of Independence, then the father superior Daniel Pampoukis was financially helping the poor and treating the wounded.
Today the monastery mainly operates every August during the fortnight’s celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
